Overview:
The primary responsibility of a Junior Associate in our Firm is to handle high value, ethical
representation to the clients that our Firm serves.
Reporting Relationship:
The Junior Associate reports to the Owner of the Firm.
Authority:
The Junior Associate works under the general discretion of the Owner and has a small
degree of discretion with respect to administration and control of cases assigned to
him/her. The Junior Associate will be assigned cases from the Owner, and will work with
the support staff, including paralegal(s), to facilitate the Associate’s caseload. The Junior
Associate will be expected to represent clients in litigation in both state and federal courts,
with the possibility of also representing clients in administrative hearings and
proceedings.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the competent provision of legal services including: legal research;
drafting motions, pleadings, orders, judgments and status updates; and
overseeing and analyzing discovery. The Junior Associate may delegate to
Paralegals to accomplish these tasks but remains responsible for ensuring the
timely and professional completion of the work.
• Represent clients through administrative charges (e.g. EEOC Charge of
Discrimination) and provide competent and thorough legal counsel throughout all
proceedings.
• Monitor the case pipeline and act as necessary to move cases progressively
forward and through the pipeline in accordance with defined milestones.
• Proactively work with the Owner to ensure efficient and effective daily operations
of the Firm.
Matrix of Tasks
Daily
• Review daily reminders and deadlines
• Review daily, weekly, and upcoming monthly calendar items and prioritize work
load
• Provide legal services to clients
• Prepare for and attend meetings/hearings/interviews
• Enter productive time in the case management system
Weekly
• Meet with Owner and any other members of the legal production team
• Provide client updates
• Attend Case Status Meetings, weekly and/or twice weekly, as scheduled, and
ensure all needs of the Clients/cases are being met
• Review time entries and ensure time entries are being entered every day, and
accurately, in the case management system
Quarterly
• Billable/productive time evaluations completed with Owner
Key Performance Indicators
1. For the first 30-45 days of hire: 32.5 productive hours per month (e.g., client
services, court appearances, etc.)
2. After the first 45 days: 60 productive hours per month
