The Ingham County Bar Association is excited to announce its chosen charity for the 2026-2027 year!
Ele’s Place is a non-profit community-based organization whose mission is to create awareness of and support for grieving children, teens and their families. Through peer support groups, Ele’s Place helps children and teens cope with the death of a parent, sibling or other close family member or friend.
Ele’s Place recognizes that children’s grief is unique, and that unaddressed grief can have a negative impact on health and well-being. Unresolved childhood grief is often linked with poor school performance, depression, violence, alcoholism, drug abuse and suicidal tendencies. Ele’s Place helps children and teens who are at risk of developing these negative behaviors by supporting them in a unique way. Through their programs, they help develop healthy coping skills to continue their lives with hope and confidence.
Here are a few words from Jessica Zimbelman, ICBA’s 2026-2027 President, about our charity: “My decision to choose Ele’s Place as a local non-profit for ICBA to partner with is deeply personal. Over the last several years, I have experienced the tragic loss of both friends and family members — all of whom had children or grandchildren. I have seen how grief has affected my own children, and knowing that there is a safe space in Lansing for kids and families to process grief and work through it with people who care is essential. Ele’s Place mission — “To ensure no child or teen grieves alone in Michigan” — reflects the importance of community that ICBA also values.”
